Title: NASA Goddard’s Explore Cloud is Firing on All Cylinders
Abstract: In 2019 and 2020, the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) at Goddard Space Flight Center was facing major issues associated with filesystem stability and user access. As such, the on-premises virtual environment, ADAPT, was in a Severity 1 (Red) or Severity 2 (Yellow) status much of those years. The Cloud Computing Team performed an analysis of available storage options and recommended that the Government procure a Panasas storage array. After putting the Panasas array into service, unplanned downtimes were greatly reduced, user perceptions increased, and NASA scientists and partners were able to improve the iterative analysis required for climate science.
Speakers: Jim Shute, Cloud Computing and Data Sciences Lead, NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) and Brian Roth, Senior Linux Administrator, NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS)
