This year marked our strongest presence at SC yet, with the introduction of the Panasas User Group Meeting, speaking at HP-CAST, the Next Platform HPC Day and the SC19 Exhibitor Forum, demos and tech talks in our booth, and a presentation in the Supermicro booth.
The new PanFS® on ActiveStor® Ultra – Built for Price/Performance – Engineered for Manageability
We proudly showed off the new generation of PanFS on ActiveStor Ultra. Our booth demo showed PanFS running on a fully loaded ActiveStor Ultra rack, with ActiveStor Directors running the industry standard HPC benchmark IOR, demonstrating world class performance.

We also introduced Ludicrous Mode for extreme acceleration in the era of HPC and AI. This concept demo offered a peek inside our engineering lab to get a look at the direction storage is taking for the high-performance data center of the future, where AI and low-latency applications converge with traditional HPC workloads. Ludicrous Mode introduces a NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) layer added to the three-tier data placement inside today’s PanFS to create the most economical approach for addressing large data sets and a wide variety of high-performance workloads.

Panasas User Group Meeting
Held on Monday afternoon, the event brought together Panasas users to network, learn, and share best practices around the use of Panasas technology in HPC workflows. The program featured presentations from Panasas customers ASRC Federal, Northrop-Grumman, TGS, and the University of Minnesota as well as an HPC market overview from industry analyst Steve Conway with Hyperion Research. Panasas software architects Curtis Anderson and Ellis Wilson presented on the topics of “Adding low latency capability to PanFS for AI and HPC” and “The New ActiveStor Ultra: Lessons learned from 20 years of parallel file system experience” respectively. Customer testimonials included: “We have not had an unplanned outage in 8 years” – ASRC commenting on their major consumer products company’s Panasas experience. (After Hyperion Research reported 42% of HPC Storage sites experience monthly outages).
