Bringing over 20 years of combined experience in engineering and marketing, Matt is responsible for all Product Marketing including product introduction, positioning and pricing. Prior to joining Panasas Matt spent nearly 14 years at Sun Microsystems in roles ranging from Systems Engineering to managing Executive Communications. He worked on several ground-breaking programs including Java, Project JXTA (open source peer-to-peer software) and the introduction of the Sun Fire X4500 aka Thumper. Before joining Sun he led several software development teams responsible for creating both press-press graphics and architectural CAD systems.
Today’s RAID technologies are based on concepts that were developed at a time when the size of large disk drives was measured in megabytes. The recent release of terabyte-sized disks, while greatly increasing storage capacity, has made the problems of disk failures, disk rebuild times and performance degradation during rebuilds an issue of critical importance.
Fortunately, managers at commercial IT sites can avoid the penalties these large disks impose while they take advantage of the scalability, performance and cost efficiencies that the new disk technologies provide.
