New in PanFS™ 5
PanFS 5 is the latest parallel storage operating system for the ActiveStor family. Introduced with ActiveStor 14, PanFS 5 is required for ActiveStor 14 and is available as an upgrade for ActiveStor 11 and 12.

| Intelligent, unified, cost-effective SSD/SATA storage tier | PanFS 5 makes efficient use of SSD capacity by storing metadata and small on SSD storage. The first 12kB of all files is stored inside the file system metadata, improving SSD efficiency while increasing small file performance. |
| Increased Usable Storage Capacity | Dual parity RAID overhead has been reduced to only 3%, yielding a more than an 8% improvement in usable capacity on ActiveStor 14 relative to previous ActiveStor models. |

| New PanActive Manager GUI | The PanActive Manager interface has been refreshed, bringing significant improvements in user experince. |
| Recovery Priorities | Administrators may now prioritize object RAID reconstruction on a per-volume basis to ensure that the most important volumes are rebuilt first. |
| Read-only Volumes | Administrators may now select read-only or read-write access mode on a per-volume basis. |
| Improved Support for Large Directories and Large Volumes | The maximum number of entries per directory and the maximum supported number of entries per volume have been increased. This improves the suitability of PanFS to handle small file workloads and applications that store all output files in a single directory. |
| Improved DirectFlow File Listing Speeds | The DirectFlow® Linux client has been enhanced in order to dramatically improve file listing speeds when using the statahead mount option (typically 6-10x faster than the same ActiveStor system without statahead). |
