ActiveStor Harnesses the Power of Intel® Xeon Phi™ for HPC

Our customers asked for Xeon Phi support and we listened. We’re pleased to report that Panasas now supports the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor across our ActiveStor scale-out storage solutions, making Panasas the first storage vendor to unlock the full potential of this powerful technology.
Integrated into the Panasas PanFS parallel file system, Xeon Phi support enables the coprocessor’s extreme parallel performance to fully leverage our storage for I/O-intensive big data workloads in commercial and high performance computing (HPC) environments. When parallel compute architectures are extended from servers through storage, the implications for application performance are truly remarkable.
Xeon Phi marks a leap ahead in terms of performance, memory usage and energy efficiency for high performance storage environments making it an ideal complement to Panasas storage. The Xeon Phi coprocessor offers approximately six times the peak performance of its Xeon E5 predecessor with full X86 code compatibility. With integrated Xeon Phi support, PanFS can now route I/O requests directly to the coprocessor, providing applications running on the coprocessor direct access to storage, dramatically accelerating application I/O performance when compared to other file systems.
Panasas customers can download Panasas DirectFlow clients for the embedded BusyBox Linux distribution used by Xeon Phi coprocessors via the Panasas customer portal, my.panasas.com.
