ActiveStor 16: Observers React to Reliability at Scale with RAID 6+
July 8, 2014 - 5:00pm
Along with the official start of summer in California, June marked a significant step forward for our hybrid scale-out NAS product line. This month, we announced ActiveStor 16 with PanFS 6.0 and RAID 6+ data protection. This powerful combination yields a high-density platform and industry-leading reliability at scale while ensuring the manageability and performance that are essential for big data deployments.
I’m overjoyed to see the industry response to our new offering. Below are just a few of my favorite highlights:
- At SearchStorage, Sonia Lelii explains how Panasas is advancing RAID for scale-out NAS, detailing our innovative approach to RAID 6+ triple parity protection and the counter-intuitive way that reliability improves with scale, with supporting commentary from Steve Conway, IDC’s research vice president for HPC and data analysis.
- The Register validates our RAID 6+ approach by explaining how you can now “avoid lengthy RAID re-builds” and speculates about the benefits our highly reliable, performant storage operating system will deliver to flash technology in the future.
- In a detailed article for HPCwire, Timothy Prickett Morgan provides a clear explanation of our unique approach to data protection and credits our founder and Chief Scientist, Garth Gibson for his influence on this important new RAID development.
- In a lively podcast with our own Geoffrey Noer, Truth in IT discusses the “challenges IT departments face when dealing with ever-growing unstructured data” and the reliable, easy-to-manage, high-performance capabilities and grow-as-you-go scalability afforded by ActiveStor 16.
I’d like to give a special thanks to all the industry influencers who have published their thoughts about ActiveStor 16 and PanFS 6.0 this month.
